Root Canal

A root canal is performed to treat an infected or necrotic (dying) nerve of a tooth.  This process disinfects the inside of the roots of the tooth which is then filled and sealed to prevent further infection.  After a root canal the tooth is typically covered with a crown to prevent fracture and maintain appearance.  Properly maintained, teeth with root canals and crowns can last a lifetime.
